This week over at iheartfaces the theme is Oh So Silly! One of the silliest people in my life is by far my little two year old Lillian Kate also known as Silly Lilly. I’m sure she’ll appreciate the nickname when she’s older.

 I was attempting to take some “artsy” photos of her with newspaper in the background and she decided to take the photo shoot in her own direction. All she really cared about was holding up this disguise. At this age, I’ll take what I can get.

It’s been a really REALLY long time since I’ve submitted to iheartfaces photo challenges but I saw the theme this week and just couldn’t resist submitting a recent family I photographed. I had the opportunity to photograph this completely awesome family on the rooftop of The Cotton Mill in McKinney, TX. It was fun!

This week the photo challenge theme over at i heart faces is A Touch of Sun! This image of Macy, a 2011 Senior is the first image that came to my mind. The sun is my bff!

This week over at i heart faces the theme is Water! I immediately thought of this photo I took at the end of Angie and Damon’s engagement session after they ran through the fountain near the John F. This week’s theme over at i heart faces is props! I recently did a vintage school shoot with my daughter Addison in honor of her starting kindergarten next month. I used my grandmother’s old school desk as well as some vintage books and an apple of course. I just can’t believe how fast the time goes!

This week over at i heart faces the theme is From a Distance! I was a bit torn on the final image to submit to this week’s photo challenge theme and decided to go with this one from Macey’s Senior Shoot simply because it’s different from anything I’ve ever shot. I just loved her interpretation of the “freeing” pose I was going for.

This week’s contest theme over at i heart faces is A Slice of Life!

Details: This week’s theme is going to be more of a photojournalistic one…we’d like to see an image that you feels captures a “slice of life.” It can be a photo taken of your own family, from a lifestyle session you’ve shot with another family, or any other type of session you can think of. Just make sure it has at least one human face clearly showing and that it is more of candid type of photo that shows off a bit of real life.

This is a photo that I took at a lifestyle family shoot last fall. I feel it truly represents a slice of life for this family for many reasons! Just to name a few… the kiddos are kind of in their own little world, the photo was taken at their little slice of Texas paradise (a.k.a. right in their own back yard), and I just love that they wanted to include their horses! Most of all, looking back at this photo just makes me feel happy! For me, that’s what photography is all about. Feeling emotion that is captured in photographs.

If you have followed me through my first year of photography then you know I started off SO afraid of shooting in the sun! I would literally only shoot my subjects in the shade and looking back, this really did limit me. Once I discovered the awesomeness of shooting in manual mode and decided to face my fear of shooting in the sun, my world changed. Now, I’m always on the lookout for creative ways to backlight my photos using natural sunshine with a little flare and have turned into a complete sun flare junkie! I admit, I actually get a little bummed out if I have to shoot on an overcast day.

I’m elated that this week’s theme over at i heart faces is Sun Flare. Here is a beautiful Senior that I photographed not to mention, this also happened to be my VERY first time EVER shooting in manual mode! Woo Hoo! Needless to say, it wasn’t until weeks later that I actually discovered my camera had a light meter… that sure would have been helpful. Did I just say that out loud? Taking photos like this one truly makes me happy on the inside and out!

This week over at i heart faces the theme is Anything but a Face!

I went to a super fun Photographer Shoot Out in the DFW area today. After 5 hours of shooting I’m not going to lie, my back is sore and my feet hurt but it was so worth it! I had a blast mixing and mingling with other photogs as well as shooting 3 different subjects/setups. I’m thinking this photo is appropriate for Anything but a Face….
